AC Milan in Injury Crisis: Pazzini May Add to List While Galliani Lashes out

With Giampaulo Pazzini sitting out Italy’s first training session, AC Milan’s worsening injury crisis continues and Vice President Adriano Galliani is not happy about it.

It all began unsurprisingly enough, with Alexandre Pato pulling up injured during a work-out prior to the season opener against Sampdoria.

Such a thing is unsurprising because the Brazilian, despite being only 22, has now had no less than 16 separate injuries in four years at the San Siro. So, while Milan would have been disappointed that “the duck” would be unable to immediately fill the large shoes Ibrahimovic left behind in the offseason, it was no huge shock to anyone familiar with the club.

However, since then, the Rossoneri have seen Robinho, Abate, Montolivo and Boateng go down with one kind of ailment or another. While the international break does provide some kind of respite which will hopefully allow some of these players to recuperate, it’s also possible that more could pick up knocks for their countries.

So just when it looked like it couldn’t get any worse for Milan, last week’s hat-trick hero Giampaulo Pazzini had to sit out Italy’s first training session with a knee injury.

All this has prompted club vice president Adriano Galliani to publicly state that a problem exists at Milanello. Football Italia have quoted him as saying: “The real problem at Milan is the injury crisis. Everyone knows it, both the Coach and the fitness staff.”

A similar problem occurred in the early to middle part of last season, and while some could point to the notorious San Siro pitch as an issue, that problem is hardly new and therefore doesn’t coincide with the onset of injuries.

The VP concluded: ““We have to do everything possible to find a solution and resolve this, as we are on an average of an injury per game.”

Match Preview: Bologna v Milan

Bologna have endured a difficult time of late, with the future of talisman Gaston Ramirez in the balance and a 2-0 opening-day defeat to Chievo last week only adding to Stefano Pioli’s woes at the helm.

Diego Perez’s red card against Chievo means Nico Pulzetti has been drafted into midfield to cover the Uruguayan, who must now serve a suspension. Other than that, centre-back Gianluca Cherubin should come in to replace Gyorgy Garics. Bologna have picked up only two points from their last seven meetings with the Rossoneri. Bologna attempted the joint-fewest shots on the opening day of the new season, with three.

Meanwhile for the visitors AC Milan, who are desperate to bounce back from their 1-0 reverse to Sampdoria, coach Massimiliano Allegri is ready to hand a debut to new striker Bojan Krkic, who recently completed a season-long loan move to San Siro from Roma.

Elsewhere, fellow new arrival Nigel de Jong is expected to take a place on the substitutes’ bench, as the only other change should see Giampaolo Pazzini replace the injured Robinho in attack to form a new-look partnership with the Spaniard. However, Ignazio Abate, Alexandre Pato, Rodney Strasser and Sulley Muntari are all injured and will be of no use to the former Cagliari boss for Saturday’s trip to Emilia-Romagna.

AC Milan have scored 201 goals in Serie A against Bologna; only Inter have put as many past theRossoblu. Prior to last Sunday’s defeat to Sampdoria, Milan had scored in 16 consecutive Serie A games.
